ABOUT STEPHENIE MEYER
Stephenie Meyer was born on December 24, 1973 in Connecticut and moved to Cave Creek, Arizona at the age of four. She is the second of six siblings and graduated from Chaparral High School in Scottsdale. Being an honor student, she earned a scholarship and went on to attend college at Brigham Young University where she was an English literature major. It was there that she was re-acquainted with Christian "Pancho" Meyer, of whom she had grown up with. They were married a year after dating. Her hobbies included scrapbooking and creating Halloween costumes. Meyer has four children and was a stay-at-home mom until her famous dream that inspired her to write the Twilight novels in 2003. Meyer had dreamt of an intense love story between a mortal girl and a vampire that she could not get out of her head. "Though I had a million things to do, I stayed in bed, thinking about the dream" (Meyer, 2013). After three months of writing, Meyer was able to secure a three book deal from Little, Brown and Company which paid out a $750,000 advance, which was the largest sum the publishing house had ever rewarded a new writer (Stephanie Meyer Biography, 2013).
Twilight, a paranormal genre series, was released in 2005 and received outstanding reviews which made the series a best-seller. In fact, the series was honored as a New York Times "Editor Choice and Publishers Weekly Best Book of the Year" and soon after writing her second book, New Moon, she agreed to make the series into a movie. Twilight is critically recognized and has sold more than 250 million copies in 37 different languages. Meyer sold more books than any other author in 2008, about 22 million and took the four top spots in best sellers for 2008 with the series. She even beat out Harry Potter, which was also wildly popular at the same time (Minzesheimer, Debarros, 2009). Her series consists of Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. It's not a novel that is full of erotic sex scenes, it's a novel about the erotic tension of abstinence. There is no secret, Bella and Edward want each other and want each other badly. Even though the surface of the book may be teeny bopper clean, once delved in, the series is deliciously erotic (Grossman, 2008).
Meyer has completed the Twilight series and has released a new novel called The Host, which was also selected to be made into a movie. The Host was also a number one on the Best Seller list of the New York Times (Stephanie Meyer, 2012).
